Fall 2023 Promotional Course!

From time to time, the Brookes Bible College is pleased to offer special promotional courses in connection to the launch of new programs or initiatives. For fall 2023, to celebrate the launch of our new European and African studies initiatives, Brookes will be offering a special promotional course in the advanced study of biblical manuscripts and Hebrew scrolls! Most weeks, a new scroll or manuscript will be presented to the class that has either been documented by the MIKRA Research Laboratory, or is currently in the process of being documented. These are actual manuscripts, not images or facsimiles.

Course Description
BTH400 Introduction to Old Test­ament Scrolls and Manuscripts is a unique new special studies course that will launch our Brookes Euro program in the fall! The course will engage students with Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) manuscripts to discover how a manuscript’s material features, textual markers, and typology allow for dating and localization, as well as how these practical, material interests intersect with theological concerns. In this dynamic course, the student will be introduced to a new manuscript each week straight from the MIKRA Research Laboratory, and will learn how the disciplines of codicology, biblical introduction, textual criticism, bibliology (including: inspiration, inerrancy, textual transmission, preservation, sufficiency) relate and how modern advancements are allowing for progress in these disciplines. Students will be delighted to learn how human copyists have cooperated with divine providence in the work of ensuring the faithful, reliable transmission and preservation of Scripture, as well as how modern technologies continue to advance the field of biblical studies. An added bonus will be that the course will be populated with a higher percentage of international students from Europe, and Africa!

Cost
Because the course coincides with the launch of two new programs being initiated in the fall, we'll be making it available to our students and friends at no cost. However, seating is limited and similar courses have reached capacity quickly in the past. For regularly enrolled degree or certificate students, the course may count toward the completion of a program.
