Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, and Brookes Bible College Family,
Most of you are aware that as of yesterday (3/15), St. Louis County is strongly advising that all schools close for the next eight weeks beginning this Wednesday, March 18. We deeply regret that this has become necessary to minimize the spread of this coronavirus. I want you to know that Brookes Bible College is going to be complying with this recommendation with one small exception. Because we have so few students on campus on Thursdays, we are going to have classes on Thursday, March 19th, but that will be the last day of classes at the college until the end of the semester.
Below is our emergency response plan. You will be receiving further updates over the next few days.
Robert Thurman, Professor of Bible & Preaching | President
Brookes Bible College celebrated its commencement service on May 12, 2018 this year--awarding the Associate degree to Bryan Brown and Josephine Johnson, and recognizing the completion of the certificate level by students Mark Fincher, Albert Kelley, and Clara Reese.
President Robert Thurman presided over the event and was joined by representatives from the board--Dr. Jim Clark and Randall Kirkland--the Academic Dean--Dr. Allan Henderson, and several members of the faculty.
Those in attendance were further blessed along with the graduates by a stirring exhortation from God's word given by Pastor Andre Alexander.
We wish our graduates the best in their ministry endeavors and are thankful for the tremendous contribution they made to the life of Brookes Bible College and their fellow classmates.
The administration of Brookes Bible College is pleased to announce the school has been awarded Accreditation by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE).
Obtaining accreditation with ABHE is typically a five-year process and has three phases: the applicant stage, candidate status, and initial accreditation. BBC administrators completed a self-study, hosted a site team visit, and worked to make improvements to the school in response to the site team’s recommendations. For the final step President Robert Thurman, Academic Dean Dr. Allan Henderson, and Board Chair Dr. James Clark appeared before the commission and received their decision to award accreditation Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
ABHE is a national accreditation organization recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). With over 200 member schools in the United States and Canada, ABHE exists “to enhance the quality and credibility of postsecondary educational institutions that distinctively engage students in biblical, transformational, experiential, and missional higher education.”
From the Desk of the President
In 1636, the newly formed Harvard University adopted the following mission statement for its students: "To be plainly instructed and consider well that the main end of your life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ."
Back then every Harvard instructor professed Christ as Savior and affirmed the authority of Scripture. Every diploma awarded contained the words, “Veritas pro Christo et Ecclesia,” meaning, "Truth for Christ and the Church."
How long did Harvard remain anchored in the Truth? In 1718, just 80 years after the school was founded, a group of New England pastors became convinced that Harvard had drifted from its theological moorings, and founded Yale University. By the 1830s, it was clear that Yale had also charted a course away from the truth of God’s Word.
In 1917, Dr. J.H. Gauss, our institution’s first superintendent, wrote the following on behalf of the lay worker training school which would one day become Brookes Bible College:
“A school of the Book of God, for the Truth of God, to Serve the Church of God.”
By God’s grace, a century later we are still anchored to the authority of Scripture and the Lordship of Christ. We recognize that without Christ we have no hope of successfully training servant leaders who will transform the world for Him.
And to continue this mission, we need your help.
To stay on course and sustain the ministry this year, we need to raise $12,000 by the time our Fall semester starts on September 5, 2017, with an ultimate goal of $60,000 by May 30, 2018.
Putting it in perspective, it would take just 240 individuals making a one-time donation of $50 to reach our short-term goal. We prayerfully ask that you consider making a commitment to pray, refer students here for training, and contribute to the Anchor Fund.
Help us remain anchored in the truth for another century.
Yours for the Master,
Robert Thurman | President
